Murata’s Climate Change Initiatives

Also, Murata has been promoting activities to reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing, and has selected "strengthening climate change countermeasures" as a priority issue (materiality), and is operating its business with a target of GHG※3 emissions.
Recognizing that climate change is an important issue, Murata is working to reduce total GHG emissions by promoting climate change measures, such as the implementation of energy conservation (Energy conservation) measures and the expansion of the introduction of renewable energy (Below, renewable energy), led by the Climate Change Committee chaired by the Director and Managing Executive Officer. In fiscal 2022, Murata achieved a 16% reduction in GHG emissions (Scope1+2) compared to fiscal 2019 and a 24% renewable energy introduction rate.
In addition, the Climate Change Committee discusses Murata's climate change policy in cooperation with three subdivisions: the Initiative Promotion Committee, the Renewable Energy Promotion Committee, and the Energy Conservation Promotion Committee. In recent years, Murata has discussed and implemented in-depth analysis of the opportunities and risks of transition scenarios in TCFD, introduction of a system combining solar panels and storage batteries at our sites in Japan, introduction of renewable energy such as signing contracts for virtual PPAs, and calculation of CFP※4 to create further energy-saving measures.
In addition, Murata is working to optimize the use of energy in production by building a new energy management system that combines Murata's own sensing and IoT technologies, as well as saving energy by focusing on capital investment.
※3 Greenhouse gas:Generic term for greenhouse gases
※4 Carbon Footprint:Calculation of GHG emissions emitted throughout the entire life cycle.

With a focus on sustainability, Murata strives to solve its own challenges while also contributing to the reduction of environmental impact and resolution of social issues across society through its innovative products and technologies, generating economic and social value in the process.
